Cap, Overseas, GI, Wool, Officer's (Field Shade)
Cap, Overseas, GI, Wool, Officer's (Field Shade)
This was the regulation garrison cap or "Overseas" cap worn by officers with their class A winter dress uniform, and at times with the field uniforms. A soldier without a cap was considered out of uniform during official events. All officers below the rank of general were officially designated as STAFF officers. The staff officer's piping sewn along the upper edge of the outer band was a mixture of black and gold braiding. Rank was affixed to the wearers left front. Depending on the discretion of the commanding officer, garrison caps in the pinks drab shade #54 could be worn in lieu of the dark OD shade when authorized. Details include 100% OD serge Wool cloth heather dyed in the appropriate shades of OD #33, Acetate lining, and cloth or genuine leather headband.
